A TOAST TO COURAGEOUS LEADER AND A MAN OF INFECTIOUS HUMILITY, PRINCE OLATUNJI OGUNLOLA ON HIS BIRTHDAY.

By Daniel Abe

When you are looking for a man who can live his life for others and persevere, look for Prince Olatunji Ogunlola and when you are looking for loyalty, commitment to duty, confidentiality, look for a retired senior citizen and amiable politician of Ogunlola's pedigree.

This Ikole-Ekiti born Prince retired from the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning in the then old Ondo state in 1993. Upon retirement, he ventured into business and founded TUNEK ENTERPRISES LIMITED where they sell computers and its accessories. He is also the Managing Director of DATUNFEM CATERING AND RENTAL SERVICES as well as Sales Rep of FAMYEM MOTORS.

In order to contribute more to his community and humanity at large, Prince Ogunlola joined politics in 2006. He registered with African Democratic Congress(ADC). For his intellectual and tactical abilities, Prince Ogunlola has been entrusted with critical position in party politics. He was made the Treasurer of ADC and later elected as Ekiti State chairman of the party. In 2008, he was elected as the Chairman of Conference of Nigeria Political Party (CNPP). He also served as the deputy chairman of CNPP, South-West region. In all these assignments, he has discharged his responsibilities excellently. He rejuvenated once a docile CNPP in Ekiti State and brought it into limelight.

Prince Ogunlola has been a consistent loyalist of progressive tendency in Ekiti State. He was in the forefront of the struggle to reclaim Ekiti from the reactionary forces that hijacked the governance of the state between 2003 and 2010.

When Dr. Kayode Fayemi reclaimed his mandate in 2010, he appointed Prince Ogunlola as Special Assistant on Inter-party Affairs, the position he held till 2014.

Prince Ogunlola through CNPP was able to keep the administration of governor Ayodele Fayose on its toes through constructive criticism via press conferences, releases and constant interviews on both print and electronic media. He exposed ills and maladministration of governor Fayose'administration and this made Ogunlola a household name in Ekiti politics.

Having come to terms with his antecedent and cerebral, governor Fayemi upon assumption in office in 2018 appointed Prince Ogunlola as Senior Special Assistant on Mobilisation. Since then, Prince Ogunlola has been up and doing, moving from one town to another to showcase government activities and programmes. His office has created a data bank for all the associations in the state and about 122 associations have been registered. These included professional and non-professional artisan groupings aside social associations

Prince Ogunlola has received numerous awards, including the Ekiti State Students' Union, Federal School of Statistics, Ibadan, as good Ambassador 1991,Federal Polytechnic Ado Students' Union as best Entrepreneur in 1994 as well as South West CNPP as the best state chairman in 2008. He is a Fellow Institute of Administration. He is also a Patron to Heritage International Club.

Ogunlola is a politician that does not discriminate. He is highly detribalized, open to positive ideas, a motivator of positive agenda for government and a crusader of fairness and social justice.

On this auspicious occasion of your birthday, I join your wife, lovely children, extended family, political associates, the APC family and all your well wishers to felicitate with you. Here is wishing you the best and choicest of God's blessings now and always.

Once again, happy birthday to Prince Olatunji Ogunlola and many happy returns of the day.

The aims of FEF are to support the less privileged children and young adults by providing tuition, sustenance and educational resources ; to empower the adults, widows, orphans and underprivileged through Vocational Training and Education.

According to him, "the cost of education is mainly determined by its system and pattern as well as by the targets set for its different levels, a hydra - headed complex project with a great deal of variables waiting for consideration.  This makes it necessary for individuals and corporate organizations to play complimentary roles as governments alone cannot do it".

Elder lbijola  eulogised Olori Yeyelua Esther Oluremi Abe -Adeyemi,  described her as a kindhearted woman of priceless virtues and gave a passmark to Fortress Estierem Foundation for actualising the humanitarian vision and mission of the organization.

Responding on behalf of the recipients, the Senior Prefect, Master Adebayo Oluwatobi recalled that the January 2020 Anniversary lecture orgainsed by Fortress Estierem Foundation on the topic, "Building capability for self -determination and greatness with a career guide to beginners" was an eye - opener for them on Career Guidance.
Oluwatobi  appreciated Fortress Estierem Foundation and urged his fellow students to make effective and efficient use of the books so that they can pass very well in the forthcoming Senior School Certificate Examination and thereby justifying the huge investment of FEF in them.

THE CHEMISTRY OF CONRONAVIRUS IN NIGERIA.

By: Adeola Temitope
adeolatemitope3@gmail.com

Amidst the Coronavirus hurricane, numerous dramas have unfolded while a lots are daily unfolding, which should ordinarily drag the present  Nigerians into a pool of worry on what the future holds. Of course, understanding the chemistry of Coronavirus in Nigeria might require a lot of common sense and historical erudition, but it is not too late to awaken the consciousness of our opinion leaders and the youths in entirety. Personally, from the onset of the Coronavirus in Nigeria, it is well observed that there has been an unimaginable height of favouring one group while frustrating others: Nigeria has become more dangerously polarized on the alter of ethnicity with an obvious negative ripples rurally and internationally.

A more chronic act of sacrificing merit, competence and geographical spread on the alter of ethnicism and nepotism has gained more wings. Or what is the idea of "Northernizing" Nigeria's key appointments and resources amidst this hurricane? Nigeria, amidst Coronavirus, earns the award of World's Poverty Capital (base on merit) as the chemistry of Coronavirus vividly exposed its follies and internal disorganizations. Will this politics of Coronavirus make Nigeria give up that title soon? It is just a case of knowingly riding oneself into a blurred destination. The over 500million school feeding project amidst Coronavirus trembles hearts while the 1800 facemasks that costs 37million is not to be side-waved. What of the heightened insecurities due to poverty and suffering in the midst of plenty? I read of tragic epitaph written on  Southern Kaduna and the attack on Governor Zulum of Borno. Zulum made a dangerous statement in strategy when he seeks another option in lieu of the weak-Khaki boys. Just like Governor Ortom of Benue in 2018 who enjoyed the Benue people to go home and defend themselves with stones! What a dangerous moment in strategy.

Our various communities have become infranstructurally frustrated because of our approach to solving the mathematics of Coronavirus. This war can't be won by insincerity of purpose and intellectual dishonesty. We really need to get ourselves back to the road and approaches of won't retard our journey further as we plan to progress. What makes us different from the West in solving the Chemistry of Coronavirus is just our approach and mindset.

Yoruba Youths demand apologies from Ngige for attacking Tinubu

July 24, 2020 Jare Tiamiyu
Yoruba Youths demand apologies from Ngige for attacking Tinubu

The Supreme Forum of Yoruba Youths has described the statement made by the Minister of Labour and Productivity, Senator Chris Ngige on Asiwaju Bola Tinubu as an insult on the Yoruba people.

The Forum called on Ngige to as a matter of urgency apologize to the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress or risk the wrath of Yoruba Youths.

This warning was contained in a statement by the National Secretary of the Forum, Comrade Olanrewaju Wahab in Osogbo on Friday.

Wahab described the statement as a display of hatred and arrogance Ngige is nursing against the former Governor of Lagos State. He said Ngige should be “shameful” for referring to the person who was raising his hands for elections while in Action Congress of Nigeria as his mate.

“We at the Supreme Forum of Yoruba Youths consider the statement by the Minister as an insult on the Yoruba people. It’s obvious that Ngige and his co-political opportunists are nursing hatred against Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. Because one wonders why he had to bring Asiwaju into a matter that has no link with him.” Wahab said.

“We use this medium to remind Ngige that Asiwaju was the man that resuscitated his dying political career and brought him back from Oblivion while in ACN. Ngige must be an ingrate for talking down on Asiwaju in front of cameras.

“We hereby call on Ngige to as a matter of urgency retract his statement and apologize to Asiwaju as failure will mean risking the wrath of Yoruba Youths across the globe. We will never tolerate any disrespect on our revered leaders in the South West.” He added.

IJURIN BASIC HEALTH CENTRE GETS FACE-LIFT.

The Governor of Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi had during his electioneering campaign in 2018 promised that no town or community will be left behind in the developmental agenda of his administration. One of the pillars of his administration is affordable health care.

During his first term in office between 2010-2014,each community in Ekiti State can point to one or two projects in their domain executed by Governor Fayemi and Ijurin town was not an exception. It was during his first term that we had the first tarred road in the town, the citadel of learning in the town, Ijurin Comprehensive High school was renovated, the Ojurin ancient palace was given a face-lift,construction of an ICT centre and a brand new C.A.C primary school was established in the town.

Governor Fayemi continue his pedestal of development in his second term and when a community like Ijurin embraces Progressive Party, development will not be far from it.

The remodelling, rehabilitation and reconstruction of Ijurin Basic Health Centre began last year and to God be the glory, the project is now completed and ready for commission. The Basic Health Centre formerly known as Maternity Centre was not only given a face-lift in terms of physical structures but also the centre was equipped with modern health facilities. Few days ago, the emergency vehicle, Ambulance arrived the town thereby making  Ijurin, the second town to have such in the entire local government, after Ijero, the local government headquarter. Other medical equipment at the centre included Ultra Sound Scanning Machine, I.U.D kit,Suction Pump, Examination Couch, Solar Deep Freezer, RDTs kits for malaria diagnosis, Stadiometer, Delivery Couch among others.

With this development, the people of the town and neighbouring communities will now enjoy a robust and better health services.

It is the prayer of each community to have their sons and daughters in high places, particularly in government circle. One thing is to have an illustrious son in places of authority, another thing is for that person to be responsible. In Ijurin-Ekiti, we have a son, Hon Biodun Omoleye, the Chief of staff to Ekiti State Governor who is highly responsible and doing everything possible to put the name of the town in the world map. Kudos must therefore be given to Hon Biodun Omoleye for attracting this laudable project and many others to his home town.

TIPS ON HOW TO RETRIEVE BACK MONEY FROM SCAMMERS

"Tips on how to retrieve your money after you have been scammed"BLACK

Please read carefully and learn.

20% of social media users and shoppers have been scammed at one point or the other, either large bucks or small money and It's quite painful.

Many people don't always know what to do, so today I’m sharing with you things you do, when you realize a page you paid for a service or goods is ghosting you:

1. Screenshot all previous chats across all messaging app (IG and WhatsApp or FB).

 2. Write out the Full name and account number of the page or person.

3. Go to the last notification your bank sent you after you made the payment (via mobile app or text)

4.  copy out the "TRANSACTION ID NUMBER".

5. Go to any branch of the scammer’s bank (the bank the scammer uses), ask to see the CUSTOMER SERVICE in charge of FRAUD.

6. If you can, print out all those chats with the scammer, and submit it. While you are there, send an email to SCAMMER'S BANK and copy CBN FRAUD DESK (anticorruptionunit@cenbank.org)

This will ginger the bank to take it up fast.
What should you expect from this?

A LIBRARY FOR UWA.

By: -Shade Adepoju.

Those who raped Uwa Omozuwa, leading to her death, must have kept a trail on her.
They must have known she was headed for the church at that point in time on that fateful day.
They must have known she found the church as an option to a library that was never available for her to study.

Uwa's is a story of failure
The failure of hope, in our desire to return the dying reading culture among young people.
Uwa's community failed her.
Her country failed her.
The lack of a library failed her.
We failed her.

We should have known better to avail Uwa a Library to read.
Her community would have obliged her a library to read
Her country should have obliged her a library to read
Maybe, just may be, she would have still been alive.
If only Uwa had a library in her community.
She wouldn't have been exposed to the company of her rapists, alone.
If only governments funded libraries.
There would have been several for other Uwas who love to read.
If only governments would do better, virtual libraries will offer benefits to users with remote access.

For every Uwa out there in search of a place to read.
You don't deserve to die in pursuit of it.
It should not be.

Your community owes you a library, if government fails to provide one.
We owe one another a  library.
As everyone deserves one
Just as Uwa did.

IJURIN EKITI HOME OF SOUND CULTURE, CUSTOM AND TRADITION : YESTERDAY, TODAY AND TOMORROW.

According to Oxford English dictionary, custom is an accepted way doing things in a society or community,  hence Ijurin Ekiti, one of the towns and villages in the hilly state of Ekiti is not an exception.

The cultural value of the town ljurin Ekiti therefore remains one of the most interesting piece of study in modern day Nigeria, considering her value, her significance. Though the valiants might have rested their heads in silence but their story, left on ground, remains as flourishing in minds of all the subjects as in all hearts.

Ijurin Ekiti customs and traditional virtues cannot but be broadened for generations yet unborn.  Ijurin is a community. The valiants rested their head in silence but their story, being left on ground, still flourishing in all hearts.

Ijurin is my native home. Our custom and traditional values must not be treated with less importance. Hospitality is the motto - Ijurin - the home of hospitality - even where hospitality itself resides. As no one can severe love away from charity; likewise both from hospitality - hospitality, the very attribute of God Himself.

Where else is pounded yam abound than here? Our God and true gods guard the land and farmers; "Sogbe and Ajimokun" (Yams) flourishes in the land as another "Eden".

The people of Ijuurin entirely welcome with a good aromatic and appetizing " Egusi" soup (Melon), "Isapa" is no less than "Rorowo" on very hot pounded yam beside is palm-Wine taking in "Igba" (big calabash).

No one can differentiate the aliens, Sojourners (Settlers) from the indigenes. We share matters, mostly in the former reigns, with kindreds (Kinsmen and kinsmen), that there were no rooms for rebellions. A theft could not successfully operate in this gods-settled land and, in anywise, escaped.

The emergence of the new moon was eagerly awaited by every child in Ijurin, the children were always elated for they believed the appearance of a new moon was yet another opportunity to come together and tell stories. Each family in the community made its own compound to attract children of the family and beyond. For us the young ones, we showcased under the new moon our potential through singing, dancing and sporting activities. The elders told us stories, most of these stories were didactic and were meant to instil morals in the children. The new moon sometimes gave us the opportunity to recite poems that we were taught at school.

"Boju - Boju" (hide and seek) game is one of the moonlit sporting. The game is the mostly renowned and loving game amongst children of Ijurin, the children always enjoyed the moonlit sporting/activities. Ijurin is to be loved in all manners of dispensing their custom and tradition.

But where is Ijurin Ekiti?
Ijurin is one of the 22 towns in the old Ijero kingdom and one of the fifteen towns in the present Ijero local government area which came directly from Ile Ife and settled at different locations, before settling at this our present location.

Brief History of Ijurin Ekiti.

The unique people of Ijurin Ekiti who God Himself knitted to be one right from inception has monolithic culture which made them triumphed over adverstries that came their way right from Ile-Ife -the cradle of Yoruba race. Ijurin Ekiti(Ajorin) people were led out of Ile Ife by that great man called Obaobiri during the mass exodus of people from Ile Ife. History still made it clear that Ijurin People settled first at Oke Ileji, later Igbo Ilero along Oko uraro, Igbo Ogbe, later settle Olukokoro, Okuta Isana, Okoore before settling at this our present location.

A powerful hunter from Aro clan of Ijurin people went out to hunt and moved far from his people with his wife and their child one day, he left his wife with the child to hunt as usual, the child was thirsty and hungry and started crying heavily, the helpless woman with the child removed the only covering on her body and laid the child on it and went nakedly to look for something to give the dying child because the hunter had gone far into the the bush. As the woman was wandering and meandering inside the thick bush, she suddenly bumped into a brook, she drank and collected some with leaves, immediately after she gave the dying child, the poor child came to life and cried no more. The woman jumped for joy, when the husband came from hunting, the woman narrated the story to him and they made up their minds that they will settle close to the brook and named it Arin hoho yun-meaning the water that saved my child when fetched when no apparel/ covering/cloth on me And that is how Arioyun Eye Omo came into being. This man and the wife sent to others and they all came to settle at this present location called Ijurin today. One of the clans refuse to join them, they sent to them but they told the Imese(messengers) that; "a si a"meaning we are no more coming, which is where Sia people derrived their name which they later changed to Temidire Ekiti the town that is very close to Ayegunle Ekiti are part of Ijurin Ekiti then.

Here are some of the rulers that had reign and still reigning the town:

Obaobiri, he led us from Ife.
Oba Osorundinringbakun
Oba Sewele Ude
Oba Awanimora bi ekikun(Olowo lamuide)
Oba Apadeoluja Lona
Oba Agungesoye 1(Aladesinmole)
Oba Adunbi Arojojoye
Oba Aniyeloye 11
Oba Adeyinka Ayeoba Adejutepa
And now, Oba Agungesoye 11.

How did we come about the name Ijurin?

History told us that, there is a place in Ile Ife till date called Ijurin even though the pronouciation is different where Obaobiri led his people out during the mass exodus out of Ile Ife. Also, another version says; the journey together by the migrators/ migrants brought about the name- Ajorin/Ijurin.

Oba Agungesoye died at exactly 12midnight on 28th February 1944. Kairigbidi......Abajunrin lela lo, gbogbo Igbo palolo. Talo to gbena woju ekun....
He was made Oba in 1886 the year Arsenal Football club was founded. He was buried on 1st March, 1944.

Another Oba was installed on 26th April, 1944, his name is Oba Adunbi Arojojoye, adele tejiteji. A powerful Oba with large heart. He was in Akodi Aworo for two months and left the place on 29th June, 1944. He celebrated his Kingship status on 20/3/45 and Etu Odi was put on his head that same day With Imopa. Oba Adunbi Arojo died on 29/05/45.

The main language spoken by the indigenes of Ijurin Ekiti is Ekiti Dialect and the Yoruba language.
Culture is broadly described as a way of life of a part icular group of people. The ways of life of one group of people will surely have some elements of divergence, however close to another one. This is what makes a group of people to be distinct and unique in their settlement. Being one of the ancient towns in Ekiti State Ijurin Ekiti is known, addressed and attributed with certain traditions and cultures  which are important parts of their history . Specially, the unique dressing of the the people of Ijurin deserves much attention . This is premised on the impact of Western culture of the present generation,  making the dressing culture suffer an agony of slow departure. In the period before the onset of 21st century, the males predominantly  dressed in 'Buba and Sokoto' with fitted cap while the females dressed in 'Iro and Buba' with 'Gele', the chiefs dressed in traditional attire and put on beads on their neck and wrist both male and female Chiefs'

                   Female chiefs'.

The king, bearing the title "Ojurin" always dress in big attire called 'Agbada' with Crown and beads on his neck and on his wrists as shown in the picture below.

The King and his Olori.

Before the introduction of foreign religion, Ogun, Sango, Ifa and Elero are the  gods/goddess which our forefathers worships in those days.

In the ancient days, every creature inhabiting  Ijurin were then like a bunch of broom: everyman is another's friends; every animals, as well, by their loves to their bearers, are men's friends and indeed, the lover of the land: for the dogs barks when stranger is seen, the fowls and others, likewise give their signs; and all, by the power of unity, are knowledge to men.

The use of town criers was essentially attributed with the people of Ijurin as a cultural and traditionally acknowledged medium of communication.
In unity, the breeder of peace, a man can volunteer himself to be an Information passer (Town crier)- One of the famous town criers recorded in the town was a man widely known as "Abamuroko" of Asao Compound. He was well renowned for his display of traditional intelligence in dissemination of information to the people in entirety. Always accompanied with a long rod, the gong and it's stick, Abamuroko would March round the corners of the town, disseminating information while a heavenly silence was observed as the town criers unfolded his message - while beating the gong, arouses all ears to the gods' land tidings - greetings to all inhabitants, no matters how harsh or mild situation maybe.

Information usually shared by the town crier, known as the voice of the king included : communal work( Ise Ilu), festival celebration, ritual duties,, market and community business, issues relating to health,  security issues and consciousness (essentially when there was a security challenge or influx of strangers with scaring appearance), visits of prominent government agencies, meetings of elders and chiefs on one prominent issue,  welcome of renowned individuals from the town among  many others.
No one is greater than this land's norms; meanwhile, who dare defies ? In what abode; under which man's roof can rebellion concealed and yet  till the last hour unbroached ? Even when the spirit of unity, as of oath to be faithful to this gods' inhabitation, edified; who dare stands against the peace of another ?
Oh! Before the night falls, " Abamuroko" would summon all ears to hear of the matter; as if he was a seer, and no: he was only the hearer and broacher of all matters.
When year rounds for festivals, the chief priest announced the sighting of the new moon and the king sent for "Abamuroko" to officially announce the approaching ceremony in the community; immediately preparations for the festival's will begins... The beauties of this unique tradition are : efficient and widely acclaimed information to the people of Ijurin. Since information is regarded as power, the people were emboldened and prepared always. Also, the people were strongly united with the bond of information .It should be placed on record that the town crier usually perform his official duties in the dead evening in order to ensure that everyone was back from their various farms. Added to this is that the tradition continues unhindered up till the present era.
Oh! Peaceful dust unto your face "Abamuroko" !!!!!.

THE PROMINENT FESTIVALS IN IJURIN EKITI.

The social life of a particular community can be featured in so many ways, and major parts of which are festivals and cultural ceremonies. Of all the town in Ijero kingdom, Ijurin Ekiti is regarded as a home of festivals, where prominence is placed on their gatherings for celebration. This might be at quarterly intervals or annually.

The mood must be shown to thank the gods. The angels are found in men, the light men are angels, who has no stomach to swallow a night. Once in a year, 'Oshe' (iroko, araba and arere", oaks, osiers, etc.) Doth shed their barks and renews another from pains; when the old barks are painful, they spark away to relieve the blossoming trees to flourish and grown un-overwhelmed from the hands of men. This piece patently examined the festivities and cultural ceremonies in Ijurin Ekiti among the committee of towns in Ijero kingdom.

OGUN:
Being one of the most anticipated festivals in Ijurin, the period of Ogun is appears to be unique. This is due to the various social activities and feast of love that used to herald the scene.
When a year rounds in August, "Ogun" (gods of iron) doth thirsts for new bloods and renews his cloth (palm groves), the climax of this beautiful events are  when series of nocturnal activities being done. Thus, to make his sacrificial offerings, must be to appease the lives of men; and to pacify his wrath and fierce anger by presenting male dogs, in fear of this gods, his shine, particularly, are found in diverse places in the community,- "Aba'sinkins" are to be regarded as the highest Ogun priests, who after beheaded some male dogs for the restoration for the land. Besides are drivers and blacksmith (Ogun Agbede).
Thus, a strong celebration(Festival) is here; where - which children sing and dance to Ogun songs before "Akara Ogun" (Ogun-beans-cake) can be served; until the morrow, the dogs' meat would be preserved.

During the day, we are always made to either be following different types of masquerades, or running for seat lives as to avoid been beating by masquerades amongst other.
Some songs are out listed below:-
"Elege ' jege, Kere ge'
" Aba ' gbede, tete pa'ja, pa'ja" etc.

IJURIN DAY:
That cannot be over emphasised among the cultural ceremonies and annual celebrations in Ijurin is the Ijurin Day feast. This usually and traditionally come up every first Saturday in the month of September, and it is primarily a day of united feast, reunion, embrace of one another and a period of self-assessment in the town.
When year rounds in September, there comes IJURIN DAY a great festival of Unity and Love. Ijurin Day is one of the festival celebrates in Ijurin Ekiti, where all sons and daughters come together to celebrate love and unity.
The maiden edition of Ijurin Day  program came up in 1989. Why the program? To ensure that at least once in a year, the people of the town comes together to thank God, reunite for the progress of the place of our birth.

ELERO:
Elero is a festival celeebrated annually to mark the end of paucity of food and the beginning of new yam and supplus. Linguistically speaking, the word "elero" is coined from a Yoruba word "ero" which means "serenity" or "pleasantness".  Whenever the year  rounds, in June, there comes "Elero", another famous goddess - worshipping festivals. Thus, Ijurin and all other towns and settlements around comes to sight of: then would all the inhabitants of Ijurin brings canes and flog each others. The " Eye'lelero, Aba'niba, Aba'ya, Aba'oro, and Aba'aworo-efi are always present at the Elero festival and they perform some rites and rituals to bless the people and the community.

Osun and Ario'yun:
Omittance is no quittance. "Osun and Ario'yun" are no small goddess to mention and talked of. Thus, there with, when their festival approaches; there comes a plead for the rain to wash away all infirmities and the restoration of barren women to fertility -The "Iwarafa'mefa" (The six goddess worshipper's) are formally regarded to be the caretaker of the sacrificial givings and offerings.

The new yam festivals:
The new yam festival also tops the list of annual events in Ijurin. This is traditionally celebrated next to "Elero"  thus marking the official beginning of "Ijesu" i.e yam feast. It should be noted that before this day, it a purnishable offence for anyone (however highly placed) to carry the new yam uncovered from the farm. The tradition of the land demands that people should cover the new yam as a symbolic reverence to the god of fertility. Gratefully and in appreciation to the gods that brings the sprouting of the yams into fruition, we celebrate with joy within ourselves.

Here now, as my eyes seen, the story is to be accomplished. More often than not, (been a Juvenal); when comes to the middle month of July (14th of July); I, the youngest boy staying with chief Oluwadare oni, the late Aworo-Efi, as at then, would accompany him to farm; then, he would harvested one tuber of yam from every man each and individually; and gave, in return, and as a sign to recognize his hand for that festival period, a particular leave, and, as well, a spiritual sign to rebuke the cancer worms from the rest (Atonement): and been bound up, would be carried on my head to reached home, where all the rest of atonements been performed and executed.

Thus, we make "Ibete funfun"(half pounded yam-white) and " Ibete pupa"(half pounded yam-mixed with palm oil). Shared for the kids and spread outside for the unseen spirits demanding for theirs, (according to the elders saying) and all for the new yam festive period's blessings.

Oh! How I wish I knew the secret behind this! Therein, some little pounded yam would be made by which no man must dare utter a single word, until dined finished...
As there been some solid norms, some well respected customs and traditions guarding the land and the community in entirety, that implies; there are dos and don'ts (Taboos). Thus, when the don'ts are prevented and avoided, all things are done well.

It is cleared and  known, how abominable it is for a place where a hen hatches but only one single chick; therefore, to prevent the abomination, when the ill-deed is done already; we must take such an Hen with some ingredients and cooking materials to the "Esu" shine to pacify the angry god from bringing any abominable things after. The eyes has seen enough of this: such an Hen was often beheaded with mere hands by late chief Oluwadare or the "Iworo's". No one is allowed to take any part away from there to any house.
Likewise dogs and the differences between them was that; the dogs could not be beheaded with bare hands; therefore, it must bust strikes by rod to the death, and likewise, however, its meats must be shared and consumed finished at the spot.... !!!!

This is evidently supported with the pictorial scenes below.

CONCLUSION:
Ijurin Ekiti, "ilu ti a tedo sori apata", the community of godly people, the community of brave people with high communal spirit,  Ijurin Ekiti with high turnover of high quality human capital development, indeed attracts much attention of people as far as culture and traditions are concern.

THE END OF CORONAVIRUS: PROBLEMS, PROSPECTS AND POSSIBILITIES

By Temitope Adeola
+234 803 184 0184

1. The United States and the West are aware that their invincibility has been shattered. They are likely to go back to the drawing board and make amends. In the Marxist literature the death and burial of capitalism in the West had been long predicted. But each time capital faces a challenge what it does is to make adjustments and address those challenges and ultimately bouncing back. But rather than capitalism dying it was the socialist paradigm that ultimately crumbled. Is it likely that global capital would bounce back like before in the post coronavirus world? Time will tell.

2. A Sino-Western confrontation, espionage and destabilization are imminent. The coronavirus began from China and it has been alleged China infested the world and especially the West by withholding information from the world on its deadly nature. Some had even speculated it is a biological warfare unleashed on the West by China. And this is likely to elicit reprisals from the West.

3. In the post coronavirus world, Africa's level of poverty and deprivation is likely to increase astronomically. The current price of crude oil in the world market is seventeen dollars. The 2020 Nigeria's budget was earlier predicated on over fifty dollars. The country's foreign reserve is being depleted daily and it is Naira might soon be devalued, leading to high inflationary spiral. Everywhere you turn to today, Africa faces a challenging future.

4. The world is likely to witness a stronger US-Europe relations. The US has now come to realise the futility of its attempting to destroy the North Atlantic alliance.
5. There is likely to be a diminished US involmen in theaters of conflicts around the world. Its adventure in Iraq and Syria was totally unnecessary. Even direct intervention in Afghanistan was avoidable. Massive bombing of the strategic installations of Afghanistan could have weakened the Talibans to the pont that it would have been impossible for them to govern the country.

6. Globally, the reputation of China has been tarnished by the coronavirus which many nations view as nothing more than a biological warfare unleashed on the world by China.

7. The trade war between the United States and China is likely to be intensified. This competition is likely to deepen the animosity between the two of them.

8. Whether China will unseat the United States as the strongest economy and with the most powerful military in the foreseeable future remains to be seen. But without doubt, the United States and its Western allies will continue to be major players in the world affairs.

9. The political future of China is uncertain. History has shown that autocracy and totalitarianism will always have a life span. Unless there are gradual reforms in its political system that will allow for the enforcement of the basic human rights of its citizens, a future implosion similar to the one that took place in the defunct Soviet Union might await it.

Finally, the primary concern of most Third World scholars should not be in the sterile debate on whether Beijing will soon be the economic capital of the world but on whether Africa and the Third World will be able to exploit these changes to the advantage of their peoples.

Certainly, the world can never remain the same again and for ever after the coronavirus pandemic.

Coronavirus disease: bringing out the librarianship in us

Dear colleagues:

Hope we and our families are doing fine.

With respect to the recently-confirmed case of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Nigeria, the following are some of the things to note by libraries and librarians in the country:

 1. CABI turns all coronavirus articles to open access for three months
CABI has made 17,000 relevant records on coronavirus from Global Health database and CAB Abstracts free to access for three months. The corona virus content including research on epidemiology, prevention, and control of SARS and MERS, and research on animal corona viruses, has been made open access as a way of contributing to the response to the outbreak which as of 28th February has more than 85,000 confirmed cases and over 2500 deaths globally. To gain access, visit the Global Health website (www.cabdirect.org/globalhealth) , go to ‘login’ and follow the registration instructions and copy and paste voucher code  CV23359XB80 into ‘redeem a voucher’ section. Kindly bring this to the awareness of health practitioners/researchers in your institution.

 2. Susceptible increase in Fake News
The menace of fake news portends great danger in curbing panic and misinformation. Libraries should at this time heighten information literacy tutorials to guide people. In this kind of situation, many websites publish unfounded information to gain traffic to their sites. Librarians should debunk fake news as soon as possible and encourage the sharing of information that are only from verifiable/reliable sources. An example is the news by the Nation Newspaper on it's website that CDC stated that shaving beard protects against coronavirus, which was a fake news. I have contacted the Newspaper via social media and sent them the correct link to the information as published on CDC's website in 2017, which was about the use of respirators in workplaces and had nothing to do with coronavirus. The IFLA's guide and infographic on how to spot fake news (https://www.ifla.org/publications/node/11174) should be widely shared and explained if possible.

 4. WHO dedicated COVID-19 webpage
The World Health Organisation (WHO) has established a dedicated webpage for COVID-19 outbreak. The webpage offers information on protecting yourself, getting your questions answered, travel advice, situation reports, media resources, technical guidance and global research. This can be use for our outreach services, brought to the attention of our users, and used to answer users' questions. The page can be found at https://www.who.int/emergencies/diseases/novel-coronavirus-2019. Several other governmental organisations and recognised NGOs also have reliable information that we can use online.
